Postcard series (Back of the Yards)

In an early effort to work with a group of youth in the Back of the Yards neighborhood we walked and took pictures of the community as we walked. They described the community with little recognition of its history with the massive structures and remnants of the Chicago Union Stockyards surrounding us still in tact. The project was initiated by a question about why the city didn’t promote the Back of the Yards as a destination for tourism. The text was a blend of adolescent vernacular and whisps of slogans, song lyrics, often reimagined in translation.
